Finnish Veikkausliiga preview 30.4 - 2.5 2010

Has been published with early price estimations, team news and updated match day previews for the Newsletter customers. The service includes daily, fresh and accurate information you are not going to get anywhere else. Not even for a price.

The regular price is € 60 a month or € 20 a week for this service which will cover hundreds of matches also this season directly from the spot; I hate to call it inside info, but especially in the lower leagues that is exactly the case, helped with my background and connections in the game. For example last night at Kiffen - PK-KU I was talking with one of my own managers and other people heavily involved with the local football. That happens almost every day, the information keeps on coming... and will be delivered, to my customers.

Crazy offer for this May Day weekend first time customers; a nominal € 20 for 2 weeks, € 40 for a month! It is not much in money, but a lot in value. More than you thought!

This website looks rough but do let it fool you, the information is solid and keeps on coming, and the Finnish matches are very interesting bettingwise because of the big volatility and market movements.

€ 20? We are not talking about a risk here, but a chance of a finding a lasting and valuable relationship!

Email puntteri@gmail.com for more details. Moneybookers and bank transfers welcome. The offer ends on Monday May 3rd.

The customers naturally get updated info, they are the first to know which of the doubtfuls will play or not, like the case of important Toni Kuivasto tonight at Haka - FF Jaro @ 18.00 CET

CD

This is the 1st round rescheduled match, pitch at Vaasa was not in good enough condition and it is been reported that there is snow mold now – whatever that is – but the match takes place. Wednesday is not normally a match day.

Both teams won their 2nd round difficult away matches, VPS at Mariehamn by staggering 0-3 after being very efficient in front of the goal but the over all performance was solid as well, and JJK were lucky enough to meet Tampere United in a match that has been descibed as a ”worst ever TamU performance". Yet the goals have to be scored and there is nothing that should be taken away from JJK´s 0-2 win.

Strikers Valtteri Laaksonen and Antonio Inutile are both getting back to match fitness and both scored a beautiful goal at Mariehamn which always make a world of difference for the self confidence for a striker, especially in a normally goal-shy team like VPS.

JJK were unlucky regarding the injuries. Df Antto Tapaninen can be replaced by Tuomas Latikka, but Touko Tumanto is one of the absolute key players at midfield with a lot of good movement and work ethic, toughness and experience. Striker Mikko Hyyrynen did not play vs. TamU due to thigh injury and will stay sidelined, and he is also seriously missed.

Last season VPS won both matches, but again, JJK 2010 is far better team than JJK 2009 and also the home team have changed quite a lot, in the league cup JJK – VPS ended 3-0, but it was more a testing period and the line-ups were far from ideal, at least from VPS side. So no help from the history here. Even the managers have changed at both teams since last season.

In the light of pre-season rankings JJK should do better than VPS this season, but the recent excellent VPS results and performances on the pitch indicate that they are another one of the big bunch of teams fighting for a comfortable midtable finish, a relegation is a realistic worry if everything goes wrong, but with a good run of results both have a change to get in safety in good time.

So what can we expect? Given the poor pitch condition, the relatively slow number of both teams goal chances and shots – VPS shot a total of 8 times at Mariehamn, and JJK seven times at Tampere – and the probability of both teams being semi-happy for a point and a total of 4 points after two rounds this is another low-scoring and even encounter, at least until the kick-off.

The local bookie has the set the away team to be the favourite, the difference compared to me is that I see Tumanto´s injury as a bigger blow. The VPS injuries or doubtfuls are no problem at all.I do not see too much action in this match at the asian market, both teams can get some support, but a big move either way would really surprise me.

A Kakkonen result 27.4.2010 ÅIFK - EIF 4-0

Åbo IFK from Turku, a reserve team of TPS has several (up to 9) players from TPS organization. Not all of them are Veikkausliiga quality, but Roope Riski is, and his hat trick helped the hosts to win 4-0.

EIF are no mugs, but too much is too much.

There are several clubs at Kakkonen with a reserve team status. The trick is to know if there are first team players playing, and if there are what is their form, motivation and in the end the skill.

All of this make Kakkonen very interesting betting-wise, one has to stay alert and sometimes also suffer humiliating losses. ;)

Very educating league to follow, and I recommend it strongly! Next Kakkonen match on Thurday when Kiffen meet PK-KU, indoors in Helsinki!

HJK - Haka & TPS - Honka review

I have seen some injustice in life in football and in life before, so we can add these two matches to the long list.

Haka goal-keeper Janne Korhonen has now saved Haka twice, and I really hope the owner of the club understands it and doubles his salary, after all he was the only Haka player worth any pay this Monday night. Another gk was the man of the match at Turku, Jukka Lehtovaara made a stunning comeback from injury.

HJK - Haka preview

HJK take a more attacking option for the leff-back position as Kansikas gets replaced by Mikko Sumusalo, new signing Danny Hoesen gets his chance to show his abilities as a stiker alongside Juho Mäkelä, and 15 minutes is usually not much time to make any analysis but I liked what I saw of him at Kuopio last week.

Haka will have to be without important mf Mikko Innanen and very important center-back Toni Kuivasto but have both Traore and Osei in instead, if they can not perform any better than they did vs. Hämeenlinna last week in the cup I would like to call them useless. Striker Jukka Santala also start for Haka, and perhaps there has been some quality in him in the past, but he looked dangerous only inside the box and I can not see Haka getting too many chances so close of the goal tonight. Kalle Parviainen as a center-back was hazardous vs. Hämeenlinna and if he keeps on feeding the oppositing teams strikers that way he and Haka will be severely punished.

Unfortunately HJK thrashed KuPS last week and the markets are giving us no favours, both teams are probably a bit overrated at the moment, but even if the market start favouring HJK even more I will not personally take Haka tonight if the estimations above would so suggest. My plan is to take a look at the live action and hope for a bit more generous -1 or -1.25 price. -1 at @ 2.00 is the game plan after some 10 minutes of play.

This used to be a classic game, but Haka are dangerously slipping out of the picture and are no more one the big teams.

26.4.2010 TPS - FC Honka preview, kick-off 17.30 CET

Top sides who know each other well, last season all top-3 clashes ended in a draw and it is the natural starting point for this. Both teams are attacking kind, but the mutual matches have not seen that many goals lately, and last season´s both matches were goalless, they met on the final round as well and 0-0 was enough for Honka to reach 2nd spot after HJK.

Also the third match between them last season was a draw, but this winter in the league cup there was finally a winner when TPS were run over at Honka but lost only 2-1 by goals.

In the first round Honka took an easy win 3-1 home win over MyPa, while TPS had travelled to Valkeakoski to face Haka and with the help of Haka goal-keepers superb performance had to return home with another 0-0 result.

There should be firepower in both teams, TPS have Mika Ääritalo, Riku Riski, Roope Riski, Babatunde Wusu and especially Jonatan Johansson who returned home to Finland after a long absence abroad at Charlton, Glasgow Rangers, Malmö and so on.

Honka do have league´s top scorers of 2009 Hermanni Vuorinen, 2008 Aleksandr Kokko and 2007 Vuorinen, last season also Jami Puustinen scored 12 goals is a dangerous striker, last summer he hit the gold mine and scored 3 hat tricks in three consecutive games. Vuorinen is not starting according to the line-up published by the clubs, but he was not really missed against MyPa.

No major injury worries for TPS, but they welcome back goal-keeper Jukka Lehtovaara after a long-term injury. He is perhaps the best in the league, but personally to me missing all the match fitness sounds like a risk, which has to be taken eventually and it is today.

Honka miss only Markus Paatelainen who was with the reserves last week but the importance of that is minimal as he has been injured throughout his contract at Honka and Vuorinen is at least not starting, but Honka do have the widest material in the league. Rami Hakanpää returns from suspension to replace Ville Koskimaa as a center-back. Rasmus Schüller might return but did not look like being in 90 minutes fitness in the reserve match last week.

Key factors lie in the midfield. There is a plenty of skill and speed on both sides, and as TPS have replaced the big and athletic Wusu with a more creative Riku Riski there is a reason to believe that the ball is kept on the ground.

Honka have been readier so far this season and despite the home advantage and the absence of Vuorinen they are favourites in this match, but only by a tiny margin. Total market is another thing, goals have always been expected in this fixture, but the latest two 0-0 draws do not encourage to go for over 2.5. However, I can not see this ending in 1-0 or 0-1 either, so if there is a goal scored I expect there to be more of them.

The pitch at Turku is not yet in perfect condition but should allow the teams to play on the ground, there is some home support but the ongoing ice hockey finals where TPS are leading might keep some interested parties still away from football.

Weather is fine for a good footballing evening and the 160 km trip on the motorway is no issue.

The odds are moving to favour TPS at the moment, probably because Vuorinen is not there, but his absence is not crucial.

Edit: official line-ups:

MyPa have been ranked 4th by some local experts and why is that is completely beyond me. They are defensively one the best teams in the League, but that is all they have. The midfield is uncreative, and the strikers are far from top quality. They will end up somewhere in the lower midtable and there is very little difference in quality between a big number of clubs, but there is no reason to believe they will start scoring at will. If they get the first goal they are much more likely to stick with than keep on attacking, so when they win games 1-0 is the most likely outcome.

MyPa had very little chances away at Honka, and they scored the 3-1 consolidation goal late in the match only because they were allowed to.

Oulu won TamU 3-0 in the first round, but it was 1-0 until the 90th minute and TamU had some equalizing chances in the match, and had it been 1-1 at home against a completely out-of-form Tampere bunch there would not be such optimism in the air at Oulu. In the cup Oulu met VPS away, and having made some changes in the defence line they had to settle for a 3-1 loss and getting kicked out of the cup. Whether they do mind it  or not is irrelevant, but I am not yet convinced Oulu is such a force in the League this season, especially in their travels away from the safety of their artificial turf.

The trip is a long one, but Oulu have stayed over night at Lahti and should have fresh legs available today. There are no injury or suspension worries for either of the teams.

Both teams do have a rather tiring style of play with a lot of hard work, pressing and running, and it will be interesting to see which one is the fresher on the second half.

There was some tiny value in the home win, and if you ended up taking it and are available at the computer during the match it is perhaps not a foolish idea to take Oulu + 0,5 or + 0,25 live in the match in case MyPa happen to take the lead in the first half. With a 1-0 result you would get a (less than) double win, but also cover the possibility of a loss.

That is it guys, a lot of reading again today, but as we get into the rhytm of things and get the basis done it should be less talk, more bets.

Tomorrow there is so much action with the Veikkausliiga, Ykkönen and Kakkonen that I am already worried what the previews will look like. Have a good and succesful day!

TamU - JJK quick review/live blog

Match is still under way, but the performance of the home team is so appalling that there is not too much to see and I rather live blog a bit
Christian Sund scored a pretty free-kick goal into top corner after 16 minutes , and TamU got 0 goal chances in the first half. There were not that many for JJK either, but Mika Lahtinen scored at 66th 0-2 in front of the sleeping defence.

TamU creativity is at zero, mentally they are below sea level and even the big target man Myntti loses every single ball and has the presence of a little girl though he is 20 cm taller than the defenders.

The only good thing in all this is that I am no TamU supporter, but the bet is deservedly lost.

Still waiting for the first corner for TamU now at 70 minutes of play.

71 minutes - a goal chance for TamU! No goal naturally.
76 min - TamU corner, nothing.
80 min - TamU try a bit to do sthg, but shoot wide.

I do not like to attack at individual players, but Jonas Emet at midfield was not only useless, but missed almost 100 % of his passes and lost all battles. Still he was not substituted until on the second half. Speaks volumes of the quality on the bench, and I do not mean only the players.

84 min - a good chance for TamU. Best so far.

Two serious-looking injuries for JJK on the second half, def Tapaninen and mf Tumanto are out, Tapaninen probably for a longer time.

88 minutes and JJK gk had to collect the ball again. No sweat.

TamU will get relegated and go under bankrupcy if this is the best they can do.

4 minutes added time, eutanasia would had been the humane decision at this point.

FT 0-2.

"Slow, wrong decisions, and bla bla" commented Ari Hjelm. He looked like he is ready to give up.

"We were tough enough in the midfield" Kari Martonen JJK. Indeed. So would had my grandma been against TamU of today.

The "Rosenborg" of Finland is turning into a Titanic of the Veikkausliiga.

TamU - JJK preview

Tampere United – JJK Jyväskylä April 23rd 2010 18.00 CET

TamU started the league season in the same way they finished the league cup, playing badly and getting no results from their trip to Oulu (3-0). They received another big blow when striker Aleksei Kangaskolkka got injured early in the game and their already weak and thin material got a bit thinner.

Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?
There is some relief tonight for the hosts. Striker Jonne Hjelm who got stuck in his travels because of the icelandic volcano eruption is back, fit and available, Brazilian midfielder William De Mattia ( Dema from now on) has returned from Brazil and will probably start if the license is in order, and a long-term TamU work horse Jari Niemi finally signed a contract with TamU and will strengthen the midfield significantly.

The injury list of TamU is still long, but compared to the last week´s game the situation is a way better. Toni Järvinen, Aapo Lappalainen, Jesse-Juho Kuusisto, Jari Nikkilä will be joined by Kangaskolkka, and according to the manager Ari Hjelm there are also some players in doubt, including midfielder Tuomas Haapala. Kangaskolkka is an important absentee, and Haapala would do well if he was let to do what he knows best, being the hard-defending anchor man.

JJK have not played since the league cup final, in which they got a ft goalless draw with FC Honka but ended up losing the penalty shoot out. Their first match at Vaasa was postponed because of bad pitch conditions, and they have had time to concentrate on the season opener. It remains to be seen whether it has done them good or bad having a longish break between matches.

The league cup success was a good sign of the improvement of the JJK side who were below par last season but were saved by the fact that there was an even worse team in the League, RoPS, but as usual the stats and success do lie.

JJK played in the worse league cup group - 6 best teams were in the other group - and they also had lady luck on their side in both 1/8-finals against TPS (2-2, won the penalties) and away at Jaro (0-1), where the hosts were constantly bombarding the visitors. Their luck – and good effort - continued in the final where Honka were not at their sharpest in front of the goal.

JJK do have a good goal-keeper in Szerovay, the defense line is strong and experienced at least in the center with Juha Pasoja and Jarkko Okkonen, and Touko Tumanto is a useful all-round midfielder. Up front they have Mikko Hyyrynen who is the only one to cause trouble for the defence and can create something himself, Tommi Kari is more annoying than effective and is Mika Lahtinen is a prototype of a Ykkönen side striker. Not bad as such, but not good enough for the league.

The bad news is that Mikko Hyyrynen is injured and will not play, and the midfield lacks strength and skill. Young midfielder Patrick Poutiainen is back from injury, but the combination of a soft and uneven pitch and hard TamU men Sakari Saarinen and Jari Niemi is not ideal for young Patrick.

Despite the shortcomings of TamU lately and the fact that they are suffering from their yearly crisis they still are the better of these two lower mid-table teams, and with the home advantage they are 45 % favourites in my  books to win this low-scoring Friday night encounter.

Early price for TamU -0,25 @ 2.08  was @ Sbobet, but Newsletter customers this morning and other enlightened individuals have dropped to price now down to 1.87. Check from the table below what the limits are. Projected line-ups here;

According to the Oulu manager Juha Malinen VPS had fresher legs which showed as the worst period of Oulu football since last August after 30 minutes of play, and he is probably right. There were not too many changes in the line-up, but the defence of Oulu did not have their best day.

Latest cup results here

At Kakkonen Pallohonka thrashed Sinimustat 7-1. The visitors scored a dream goal on the first minute, but over all there was no question who was going to win. The players from the first team Honka win almost every ball and battle, and there is so much more skill and experience in them than in the regular Kakkonen level players that with this line-up they would get promoted.

The result lies a bit however, after the 3-1 goal Sinimustat took a stupid red card and the rest is just cosmetics. Most of the Honka players played full 90 minutes to get some valuabe match fitness, I was worried that they might get substituted sooner.
Kakkonen minutes of the match here with line-ups and so on, they are sometimes updated right away, sometimes it takes a week or two. 6 out the 7 goals were scored by the first team players.

Today I am driving to Hämeenlinna to see a cup match between Ykkönen side  Hämeenlinna and Veikkausliiga club Haka, it does have some local flavour and I am not expecting too much from either of the teams in their respective leagues, and the kick-off is already at 16.00 CET. I guess you have seen that I am not too crazy about cup matches, but this one will be in offer in asia at least in live-betting, and if the asian handicap is at least +0,75 or more  for Hämeenlinna I might be interested, Nordicbet offer 1.45 for a Haka straight win which is ridiculously low. It will be windy, and now it is snowing here 100 km south of Hämeenlinna. A  rough suggestion for this is to take Hämeenlinna + 0,75 @ 2.25 or Hämeenlinna + 1 @ 1.95 if that is the way they will be priced.

Haka is not a particularly good team this season, but it is one the few clubs who always take the cup seriously. For Hämeenlinna this is a dress rehearsal for the upcoming season at Ykkönen, last time around they were outplayed in a friendly at Lahti last week, Haka started their season with a 0-0 vs. TPS at home on Monday.

A no bet of course returns  a 100 ROI %. and I am not forcing myself to take bets I do want to take.  I will leave my decision at live, if the weather allows taking the laptop by the pitch which is probably not the case. The stadium is not covered.

The other two cup matches tonight are not that interesting, Boda - Ilves (1.35) and City Stars (1.90) - EIF, Ilves might very well be worth the price but I doubt there are handicaps or live betting available for these.

Ykkönen will also start properly this upcoming weekend and depending on the suggestions and insight from my colleagues from the northern parts of the country there may be picks and estimations, but as some of the  teams abilities are not yet known to me I can not promise a full round preview yet, I prefer checking some facts first.

That is all for today. I will be around to answer to emails until 13.00 CET today , otherwise I will get back to you tomorrow with a more detailed TamU - JJK preview for 18.00 CET kick-off, it will also get published here in the afternoon.

Kakkonen starts today with a reserve teams from Honka and Inter Turku

Both teams have some names from the first team, and both teams have the same policy for Kakkonen this season, only young and own good players in the team who are capable of reaching the first team some day.

Today Pallohonka (Honka 2) have these players from the top;

Tämän päivän pelissä esiintyy kuusi liigajoukkueen pelaajaa. Pelikieltoa liiga-avauksessa kärsinyt Rami Hakanpää, loukkaantumisista toipuvat Markus Paatelainen ja viime kaudella veikkausliigaläpimurron tehnyt Rasmus Schüller sekä vähemmälle peliajalle jääneet Henri Aalto, Tapio Heikkila ja Konsta Rasimus ovat avauskokoonpanossa.

and Sinimustat (Inter 2) have these;

An interesting match at this level, and looking at the line-ups the outcome is pretty clear.

Edit: FT 7-1

2010 betting stats so far --> April 18th

Unverified, roughly half of them live, but as they are frequently asked here is the summary. I am not selling picks, but the over all background information and the detailed asian handicap price limits, and because I am not always around the computer myself at the time of the biggest market moves you may easily get bigger prices and value than I do. I have two open picks for tonight, but as the free sample period is now over there are no more estimations published here on a regular basis. Ask puntteri@gmail.com for detailed info and updated offer.

FC Lahti - FF Jaro review FT 1-3 (1-2)

It went according to the plan, the weakened Lahti defense were in trouble with all the crosses from the start. Lahti did perhaps control most of the first half, but Jaro were more dangerous. The snowing made both playing and following the game way more difficult in the second half, but Jaro win was both hard fought and well deserved.

Lahti had to place two midfielders for defender positions, and they did not really cope, and their absence from the midfield also weakened the midfield.

Things should look brighter in the next week´s match for Lahti, and Jaro can boast with a new goal-scorer as Bror-Erik Sundqvist scored twice.

Eremenko Jr missed a penalty, but followed the  rebound and hit it home. " It felt like the ball weighted 10 kilograms, " he explained.

Entertaining match with a lot of goal chances and both teams have a good chance for a midtable position if they avoid injuries.

Finnish Cup Viikingit - MP

Results:

Schedule:

Played on an artificial training pitch in a middle of nowhere which was almost impossible to find the underdogs MP put up a good fight. Viikingit started the match as clear favourites (-1 @ 1.75), but it surely did not show in the first half until Viikingit scored.

The second one was more of a home side domination, but it is the goals that count and when MP equalized on the last minute of the match it meant freezing another half an hour and watching the intriguing extra time was in the cards.

No goals and very little action in general led to a penalty shootout, and it went to 16th shoot until we could pronounce MP as the winner 2-2 FT, 4-5 penalties. One of the key moments was MP goalie Saku Romppainen stopping his colleague Luis Fernando´s penalty, pictured here below.

FC Lahti - FF Jaro preview April 17th 18.00 CET

A review of KuPS – HJK at the blog, also a link to the league´s match report at the bottom of the article. The most interesting thing is the big move in odds just before the kick-off towards KuPS, HJK were priced around 2.25 at the time of the kick-off, that is a long way from Ladbrokes 1.70! Personally I can not fully reason why it happened, but they are quite common in Finnish football and also one of the biggest reasons why I have started the service in this form. If they happen so late it could just be a market adjustment and risk management by the bookies without any drama.
The result 0-5 makes an estimation of 48 % for an away win probably seem a bit funny, but though I was favouring KuPS more than most of the respected odds compilers I regularly talk to there was not that much difference, and the asian market finally had to react strongly to the pressure. In my mindset I had emphatized more the HJK weaknesses which were not exposed last night at Kuopio. I was expecting a lot of market action for this match, but to honest I had in mind that HJK odds would drop towards the kick-off!

Doubtfuls:
Lahti centerbacks Hugo Miranda and Omar Yassin – licences, Yassin is stuck at the airport?
Jaro -

Both teams are expected to fight for survival. Jaro lost a lot of players after last season and seemed to be definitely going down this year, but late two players on loan from Ukrainian Metallist Harkov have made Jaro one of most interesting clubs of the season. The loaned players are Alexei Eremenko Jr - son of the current manager with the same name and a national team star and a known bad boy – and a mf/striker Venance Zézé from Ivory Coast. Lahti can still field the biggest Finnish football player ever Jari Litmanen, who despite his 39 years of age is a key figure when playing.

Club form and performances: Lahti did play the league cup in the group where all the big clubs were and nothing was expected from them. They managed to improve their play during the cup however and won HJK at home 4-1 in their last lc game. It was of no importance for both teams but yet an indicator that Lahti is not at an easy team to meet on their good day. In their last preparation match they faced Ykkönen side FC Hämeenlinna at home on natural grass and after a solid performance won 3-0. The new left defender Omar was impressive and new centerback Tennant McVea also did well.

Jaro reached the league cup semifinals but lost at home to JJK 0-1 after a sensational away win 1-3 at HJK.

Key factors: Lahti defense and goal-keepers. Even in the best case scenario it is new, in the worst case it is new, inexperienced, young and lightweight. Jaro have in fact similar problems in terms of quality in those departments, and the shortage of defensive players will show. Both teams have quality midfielders and strikers. Goals?

Under normal circumstances Lahti would be a bigger favourite but if Omar and Miranda are not available then the defense of Lahti is weak, and especially there is no one left on the bench to cover. Jaro have several weaknesses as well, and the market and media have reacted quite strongly to the comeback of Alexer Eremenko Jr, the rest of the team are not on his level and will face relegation battle for sure.

Market moves are likely also today, and just like yesterday they will go both directions. Can not promise that they change a lot just before kick-off, but if you are around it might be worth checking, or just use Betfair and ask for significantly better prices for both teams.

Good luck, enjoy your Saturday night. I have a couple of matches to go to. Asian handicap price limits below, do look for a value of at least 5 % for success in the long run.
