It is often argued that in the early season there are less goals as the teams are still rusty and pitches are in bad condition, but this special season of 2010 it does not seem to support the idea. The season was exceptional in many ways, and also the home advantage seems to be non-existent. Well not quite, home teams scored 4 goals more than the away teams!
The sample is way too small to call this an analysis of any kind, but if you want my guess why there was a slump in total goals between rounds 5 to 10 I would say it was the constant heat! It really was hot here in June & July and drinking breaks during the matches were introduced.
