Djurgården have found the source of valuable players

Today 30.12.2009 they have announced not one or two but three new contracts with Finnish players. Actually four if I include the contract of defender Jani Lyyski from VPS which was signed earlier this year.

Center back Joona Toivio - born 1988 - though comes at the moment from AZ Alkmaar, but the two midfielders Joel Perovuo (1985) from FC Honka and Kasper Hämäläinen (1986) from TPS were arguably the two best Finnish midfielders of Veikkausliiga 2009.

Grattis DIF!

It naturally depends on the selling price, but both Perovuo and Hämäläinen are difficult to replace. In Honka there are a number of talented and young midfielders, but no one of them can fullfill the role of Perovuo as such, and probably we see a bit different Honka the year 2010. TPS are also a lot weaker as both of their best midfielders Hämäläinen and Wayne Brown (Fulham) have gone.

Perovuo´s skills can be seen in this video at youtube;

Google searchers

Hi people.

I have naturally followed the incoming links and while sometimes they hit the spot right away there are also lots of people that look for something that I have not written about, but is part of my expertise. Football in Finland. Betting. Players. Contacts.

You can always ask nicely - if I know the answer or can guide you somewhere else with proper info I might just do it unless it requires too much time or revealing some valuable information.

jaaq@hotmail.com at msn, I will add everyone who asks. I believe in giving people a chance.

Happy New Year!

Football betting term of the week - Kelong

"In modern Singlish usage, the word kelong is now used as a suggestion of match fixing by referees, in particular in the context of soccer."

It is also often abbreviated as a K-factor.

Last 2009 friendlies

Or first for the 2010 pre-season.

Honka have played 3 matches in December, VPS 0-0, MyPa 1-1 and Lahti 4-1, all at home at indoor Esport Arena.

One can read absolutely nothing from the results, as there have been without exception 2 matches at one occasion as Honka have made 10-11 substitutions during half-time.

Some youngsters have gotten their chance to show whether they are ready for the first team this season, and most of them have failed. There have been interesting new positions, for example an established midfielder Jussi Vasara has featured as a right defender lately.

From the visiting teams there is also very little to say. Lahti came to Espoo with 4 players who have signed a contract for 2010. MyPa showed some promise with their new signings, but the rest of the reserve team players are almost useless at this level, and VPS had another bunch of mediocre talents in their roster.

Pallohonka have also played 2 matches and the third one will kick-off in about two hours time.

Viikingit won the Honka academy players 0-3, the following week FC Espoo had to settle to a 3-3 draw and soon HIFK, the previous team of media attention coach Gert Remmel will visit.

I am expecting an interesting encounter with lots of goals, but these are definitely no bet - matches even though they have been in offer in Asia.

Edit: FT 1-6 I guess. HT 0-4 and then I changed to futbol de sala next door, but as Pallohonka had decided to field a team which average age was about 16 this match has bettingwise absolutely no value and is no use for any analysis.

Happy Christmas, there will be articles about rankings and bank management and stats and history later on.

Number of matches in Finland 2010

The season may be short, but it does not mean that there is nothing to bet. On the contrary, during the summer in Europe when most of the other leagues are on a break, Finnish football matches form the backbone for the offer in Asian markets.

I can safely say, that there will be more 1000 matches on offer on the year 2010 and i can guarantee that the info will be hard to find.

Stats 2009

I was running 5 different banks who had mostly different scales for staking, but in many cases a big part of matches were invested in all banks. Four of them ended on at  least a bit of a profit while one of the test banks gained only about 94 %. It was the bank with most picks and usually also the prices had been cut a bit because I had taken the real  bet already elsewhere with real money.

The bets have been broken down by series, by months, by early/match day/live. Naturally by the client as well.

Overall stats of all actions is impossible to do, because of the difference in stakes and the price of the pick going immediately down especially in early asian lines, but as a tool for myself there are several observations to be made.

1) All months were on the positive side for all banks except June & July.
2) All other series ended up positive except Kakkonen North (2C), which is the only one of the leagues that I can not scout personally because of the distances.
3) Ykkönen was nothing special either, i struggled because of the homework at the pre-season was not completed properly as I was following Norwegian pre-season at La Manga in Spain.
4) Kakkonen start of the season was disastrerous because of the very same reason.
5) Veikkausliiga is a series which I can handicap by heart. I am very happy with it, I know the league and the players, and the pre-season is long enough with the league cup. (Starting Jan 2010)

Conclusions for 2010:
* Less trust in agents for 2C.
* Have to decrease the number of bets overall
* No need to bet a livebet even if I am the stadium. Got a few lessons this season.
* Have to think more carefully about the handicaps. Sometimes a bigger hc is better for the growth of the bank.
* There is no hurry with the early bets. The asian market seems to be totally unaware of the real power relations and in many cases the price of the value team rose before kick-off, and this was not wise money for sure.
* If there is a smelly match, better stay clear of it. Not all fixes go through, but there is no value in them for me.
* More livebets for Womens League, though maxs cover only a half a bet or so. Huge value at Womens league!

There were good runs and bad runs, and one of bad ones really was taking painstakingly long as for a period of 10 bets I got 9 losers and 1 void bet, and however closely I have looked at it the only reason for it was bad luck, though one the ten picks was a bad one. (A fix and I took against it)A run of 10 bets does not sound too long, but as you feel it during the season that for two weeks every single pick goes bust it surely does feel like a long time.

All in all, with better preparation and  a year wiser I am looking forward into a new season 2010, which bettingwise kicks off with the league cup Jan 22nd 2010 with Honka hosting TPS at Esport Arena at 14.00 CET. I will be there as I will be in about  hundred other matches live as well, after all I am more a scouting handicapper than a statistician.

There were no picks for european bookies as they are so silly with their limits, but I am planning to introduce a service for less advanced bettors as well who have no problems with their custom at european bookies. At least this should look good on paper and everyone can be happy!

Welcome aboard for the next season!

Pallohonka - Viikingit friendly review 5.12.2009 FT 0-3

Actually I am not going to write much. Pallohonka players average age was about 17 and their best academy players had played the night before with FC Honka vs VPS (0-0), and Viikingit were testing players and most of the ones on the pitch will not make it.

I am curious to see whether they sign Eetu Kokkinen or not, he has got some potential. Denis Abdulahi was the man of the match and most of the players seemed fit but not good enough for a Ykkönen club.

0-3 nevertheless, and even that I do like the Pallohonka team a lot, they are still youngsters and need their key players on the pitch to win against men. Coach Gert Remmel seemed to be on a good humour.

Honka - VPS 4.12.2009 friendly review

The biased  match discussion thread in finnish is here.
Video highlights here.
Veikkausliiga match report from VPS point of view here.

As always the talk is between fans and is of no use as such.

The match was played indoors and both teams were testing players. Honka gave their academy players a chance and VPS were testing players mostly recruited from lower divisions. Early odds for Honka were -1 @ 1.85 which looked like generous enough to me as normally Honka have destroyed their visitors this time of year in their indoor arena, and VPS had to make a lot of changes also because of injuries.

I gave up the idea of making complete notes and stats after seeing the line-ups because neither of teams will play like this this season, but overall if they were to play again this match any time soon under the same circumstances the estimation for this set-up would be 75-19-6. Class A team vs Class D and a goal by VPS would be a huge surprise.

In asian odds this is approximately -1.5 handicap at 2.00  with a 2.5 goal expect. If I had to adjust this I would go down a bit with the Honka win and lower it to 70 % which gives -1.5 @ 2.19 and -1.25 @ 1.89. Only a rough example of course.

The best performances of the day were Hannu Haarala, Nicolas Otaru  and Joel Perovuo from the home side, also some promising stuff from Juuso Simpanen and Tim Väyrynen.  The notable players from VPS outfit were Yannick Ossok (Pallo-Iirot 2nd div), Sami Salmi (Klubi 04) and gk Mika Huuhtanen (Klubi 04). Arttu Seppälä as a lone striker is another bad joke. Apart from silly Honka mistakes in the defence and a few free-kicks VPS never looked like a team who could create goal chances.

All in all, a friendly after some six weeks of a break, Honka did 10 substitutions in the half-time. Should not make too deep conclusions out of this.

Pallohonka - Viikingit today in the same arena.

Fixing matches

Perhaps there will be a chance to talk about this more in the future.

Finland is not clean either.

http://www.ekantipur.com/2009/12/01/most-popular/Germany-shines-spotlight-on-lower-league/303679/

Horvath & JJK - case is the latest in mind.

New pre-season is about to begin

With Honka - VPS friendly today on Friday at 14.00 CET.

For betting purposes it is probably open only for live betting and Honka should be somewhere in the neighbourhood of -1.5/-1.75 as they have a tendency to win all their indoor matches at home and VPS is suffering on the transfer market.

Honka coach will make 10 substitutions in the half-time and give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do. VPS miss some players due various reasons, and the new recruits will probably be in the starting eleven.

My guess 6-1. Ft
EDIT: FT 0-0, my guess was not worth much. In the offence the new VPS have absolutely nothing to give, but defence was ok and the newly recruited Ossok did a good match as center back.

It is good to get back in the action. There are more transfers elsewhere so I am not discussing them now here.
