  1. Really interesting blog. I'm planning on being in Finland when the Uusi Lahti Cup is on and was wondering if you thought it was worth going to watch it as a spectator? I've been to Finland before in the summer and seen some Veikkausliiga/Ykkonen/Kakkonen football so I know abit about the general standard. I read that the Uusi Lahti Cup is on the biggest preseason events-do any fans of the teams playing bother to attend? Was thinking about going on the sunday for the final and 3rd/4th play off. Any advice you could offer would be great, cheers.

  2. Welcome then!

It all depends what kind entertainment you are looking after but it helps that you know the basic level already ;). If FC Lahti reach the final day there will be more noise and support, but all in all as a whole the tournament is a good indicator of what will happen the next season. Not the results but the performances.

For me it is an important cup, for a random foreign football tourist it definitely is no Anfield or Camp Nou.

Sure, welcome, takes an hour by train from Helsinki if you are based there.

Indoors of course, I guess there is nothing better to do on a Sunday unless you like watching ice hockey.

  3. Thanks for the info. I'm going to be staying in Helsinki so I might try and get to Lahti on the Sunday. I was thinking of trying to watch some Ice Hockey but the only games that seem to be are either a 2nd division game in Jyväskylä or some 3rd division games in Tampere or Porvoo which didnt look too appealing.
I'll probably be in Finland for about a week so might try to get to a HJK or Honka Liiga Cup game instead for my football fix.

  4. Great. Thanks. Have had a look and think I've found Tali where HJK are meant to be playing.
I see Honka are playing at the Ratiopharm Arena. I've been to Tapiola before to see a Veikkausliiga game. Is it one of the indoor arenas next to the outdoor football stadium?

  5. Yes it is. One is for basketball, one for ice hockey and the Ratiopharm for football & other stuff. It is the one behind the western goal of the outdoor stadium.

  6. Just wanted to say a quick thanks for the information you gave me. Didnt get to the Uusi Lahti Cup but I did get to the Honka-Haka Liiga Cup match. It was quite a good game too. Cheers.
