Stuart Baxter´s legacy to Finnish football

I really should not even discuss things like this because as a Finn I am unlikely to follow - not to mention - understand international football but let us give it a try. A success, development or a  performance is sometimes difficult to translate from an observation into a number, but FIFA has updated their world ranking and it will have to do as a sample of raw data.

Yes, we are there too on the list!

March 2007 we were on 33rd spot, and now after one full qualification campaign under Dr. Baxter´s regime and three rounds into the current one the rank is now 86. It is not only a bad ranking as such, but also the all-time low on this list since FIFA has published it from 1993. For example Bahrain seems to be ranked 84th. Well, if - and given the performances of today it really is an If, not when - we can beat San Marino twice in the next rounds perhaps we can beat the Sheikhs! Ok Ok, perhaps San Marino will be taken care of, but that is hardly the point.

It is probably only a coincidence, Mr. Baxter surely knows what he is doing and all we can do is to admire and hold our breath, what a genius! Too bad if AIK would grab him, the whole country woud cry their eyes out.
