It has been so elegantly and beautifully put in the wikipedia that I am not willing to copy it here but just to make it short about the main league which is called Veikkausliiga after the main sponsor Veikkaus (a bookie!);
There are 14 teams who play against each other twice, home and away, during the season which starts in April and ends when the cold and dark nights of October have arrived. Total amount of games is 26.
No playoffs, whoever gains most points will get the silverware. The 14th club will be relegated directly and 13th will face playoffs against the second best club of Ykkönen, which in turn is the second best league of the country and pretty much non-professional.
That is all I have to say about that, as Forrest Gump might say.
