Finnish Cup

It is not a giant killer cup to be honest, and realistically speaking no club from Kakkonen level or below will go very far, but they have their chances vs. Ykkönen clubs, and last leason also Veikkausliiga club VPS lost at Pori vs Jazz. It speaks a lot about the attitude and skill of VPS last season, but the dream is there.

Last night I witnessed Kakkonen GrIFK to beat Ykkönen side FC Espoo 3-1 (0-1) at home, and it was an even match which could had gone either way. According to the Espoo review they were still tired of too much training and too many friendlies lately, also perhaps too eager to start results in their first official match of the season.

Nevertheless, GrIFK go to 4th round and meet another Kakkonen club LPS, and as there are several clashes between Veikkausliiga teams in the 4th round next week some Kakkonen clubs will go on to 5th round while some Veikkausliiga clubs are already out.

Some interesting fixtures for the 4th round;

JJK - KuPS
VPS - Oulu
TamU - Lahti
MPS - MyPa
LPS - GrIFK
Hämeenlinna - Haka
Viikingit - MP

Tonight I will watching Pöxyt (3rd div) entertaining KooTeePee who are one of the biggest promotion candidates to Veikkausliiga for next season. Last year in the cup Pöxyt faced TPS Turku at home, and they won with the handicap of 2.75 (0-2) and put up a good fight. This season´s edition of Pöxyt is even a bit improved and it will not be easy for KooTeePee. Least you can do is to stay clear of silly 1x2 odds of 1.25 for KooTeePee.

Edit: Pöxyt won 3-2 (1-0) . Set pieces were the key.
