Club form and performances:

Honka have lost one match during the pre-season, away at MyPa 1-0 in the league cup group phase. They are notorious for being in excellent form for the whole winter and then failing when the season starts, but they have tried to do thing differently this time and go for title from the first match on. Honka won the the league cup, but had trouble in front of the goal in the absence of key striker Hermanni Vuorinen, who is not badly injured but has been saved for the League.

Honka goal-scoring problems are nothing compared to MyPa. They failed to find the net in friendlies vs. KuPS and Haka, and there is not that much firepower in the team. Pele Koljonen is strong but a bit one-dimensional power striker, where as Maxim Votinov and Tosaint Ricketts do not really have the skills of scoring, though there is no lack of will and athletism. Midfield is not the most creative one either, Ilari Äijälä as a winger has been out-of-form this pre-season and the key man Antti Okkonen is better equipped to an anchor man role than feeding the strikers.

MyPa travelled to Kuopio to face KuPS in their last preparation match, and the 2-0 loss is not a too encouraging result.

Key factors:

Who will score?

Even if Vuorinen is not playing Honka have Jami Puustinen and Aleksandr Kokko, who have proved themselves as goal-scorers in the league, but they have usually been alongside Vuorinen who is good at creating chances and keeping the ball in the danger area. The young midfielders do feed the strikers well and there will be enough goal-chances to win the match, but the strikers must start hitting the target. The speed of Honka winger Demba Savage might be crucial for opening up the MyPa defence.

Questionmarks:

How defense-minded will MyPa be this time? Everyone knows how Honka play and like to keep the ball and control the game, but MyPa coach Janne Linberg is one of the few coaches in the league who actually react to that and his approach has been very realistic and humble. Remember catenaccio? No matter what he says in the public for the media it is hard to see him changing that style.

Honka need patience in trying to break through, but they have a lot of practise in that and as they have wide material also on the bench with different attacking options the match will be another version of the good old cat and mouse – game. I have expected Vuorinen to play in the estimation, and if he does not show up it would change the numbers a bit towards a draw.

I do not expect too big market moves today, but yesterday the market surprised me again by favouring Lahti when the line-ups were published, there was definitely no reason for that direction.
