KuPS did it themselves, after being 0-2 down at 10th minute the game was over. Horrid defense, personal mistakes and a bit of unluck. The mental preparation was overdone.
The local newspaper Savon Sanomat is blaming - a bit unfairly I must say - the right defender Jarno Nykänen for the disaster, but it was all of them to blame, and as Nykänen had to face Dawda Bah on his good day probably also Atte Hoivala would had been in similar trouble.
" I take responsibility for this", said KuPS coach Esa Pekonen. "I could not prepare the team for this."
"We got a dream start for the match and for the season", said HJK´s Cheyne Fowler who scored the first goal from 20 metres, " We were very disappointed at ourselves after the last league cup matches, but the building up for this match was succesful and tonight it was rewarded."
Nothing good can be said about KuPS today, and probably those traders who took KuPS heavily just before kick-off are not overwhelmingly happy, HJK price rose from 1.9 to 2.25 before kick-off and the result is for us all to see.
The new HJK man Danny Hoesen was introduced late in the match, and at first glance he looks like a goal-scorer to me. Peter Magnusson was substituted in at 85th minute.
